Birthday Poem for Mom

As you awake with the break of light
And ready yourself for the usual flight
That you take every day as you head out the door
And find yourself in a marathon war

Just stop and let your eyes wander round
Open your ears and drink in the sound
Of birds in the trees singing sweet lullabies
Telling you that you should reach for the skies

Make the day last for as long as you can
Without letting worries ruin your plan
Relax for the day and do so more often
Don't let these things make you feel rotten

You need to slow down and enjoy the days
And treat yourself in more wonderful ways
And since your birthday is hanging above
Know that you're wished unconditional love
And are always locked in happy thought
For everything that you have brought

This is a poem that I wrote for my mother's birthday one year...
